Ravenswood Classroom Partners

Ravenswood Classroom Partners (RCP) is a U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing educational support to students in the Ravenswood City School District, serving communities in East Palo Alto and eastern Menlo Park, California.

Mission

Inspired by the belief that every child deserves an equal opportunity to learn, RCP's mission is to provide volunteer tutoring and mentoring to Ravenswood students. The organization partners with local teachers to support academic success and personal development.

Programs

Ravenswood Classroom Partners offers three primary programs:

  • Literacy Tutoring: Volunteers work in small groups with students on literacy skills, using a structured, phonics-based program aligned with the school district's curriculum. This approach includes teaching letters, sounds, and high-frequency words to build foundational reading skills.
  • Math Tutoring: Individualized math support helps students establish a strong foundation in math, tailored to both younger and older elementary school students.
  • Fluency and Book Clubs: Volunteers lead structured reading activities to foster both academic and social-emotional growth, focusing on reading comprehension and fluency through stories and chapter books.
Impact

RCP supports over 450 students each week during the school year, with more than 130 volunteers contributing to the educational process. In recent years, volunteers have provided over 10,000 hours of literacy, writing, and social-emotional support. The organization is valued for its collaborative approach with district teachers, enhancing student learning outcomes and fostering positive relationships between students and tutors.

Background

Originally known as All Students Matter, the organization changed its name to Ravenswood Classroom Partners in 2021 to better reflect its deep involvement with the Ravenswood community. RCP's work includes a focus on students from low-income households, with a notable proportion of them being homeless or housing insecure. The district's student base is predominantly composed of Latinx, African American, Pacific Islander, and multilingual learners.

Financial Overview

Ravenswood Classroom Partners primarily relies on donations, which account for the vast majority of its revenue. Donations to the organization are tax-deductible. The nonprofit maintains a strong financial position with minimal liabilities. Key personnel include the Executive Director and Program Director, who oversee the organization's operations and educational programs.
