This exodus of intellectual capital from Africa has caused major gaps in human resources to support higher education health services technology and other sectors. Statistics on the brain drain from Africa are scarce but troubling according to facts and figures released in the stakeholder roundtable November 2004 sponsored by IDRCs Canadian partnership program. International Organization for Migration IOM and United Nations Economic Commission for Africa ECA estimate that 20000 African professionals doctors university lecturers engineers etc.
