Welcome to JUNE! It's the month's first Monday, so let's get to it. 1. It's a travel day today, as I (Jennifer) head to the Points of Light Conference in New Orleans. This conference is jam packed with incredible people doing amazing things to change the world, one act at a time, and then sharing their knowledge, insights, and ideas with the rest of us. It's an uplifting and re-energizing few days. You'll be hearing more about it this week, don't you worry. 😉 2. We have been receiving so many new applications for service over the past couple of months. Fair to say upward of 10 new apps a week hit our inbox. The needs of our older neighbors are increasing right along with our population of 60+ people. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, we must recruit more volunteers. If you'd like to host a training at your company, church, organization, or elsewhere, we'd love to get it scheduled! Summer months are a great time to get new volunteers trained up so they are ready to go when the autumn schedule resumes. 3. Plans for Sweet Charity are well underway. We're going to have some tasty news to share with you very soon on that front! Capitol Market - Charleston, WV is going to be a gorgeous venue for this September event. The excitement is building over here! 4. The response to our new Quality of Life Rides program has been slow but sure. For those who don't know, these trips are outside of our medical transportation or monthly grocery shopping trips. These are rides for general things that will make life just a little bit better: a salon appointment, a visit to the Notary, a trip to the store for a few special items. We launched the service in March and are looking forward to watching it continue to grow over the coming months. 5. Morgan and Debbie are holding down the fort in my absence. Our schedule is full, the days are sometimes gloriously chaotic, and the phones rarely stop ringing. On top of that, Morgan leaves for a conference NEXT week, and I am having a bit of surgery the week after that. Missing a member of the team may not seem like a big deal until you realize a full 1/3 of the staff will be out for most of the month! A little patience and kindness goes a long way when things get busy. 😘 Even though I'm feeling a little anxious about the logistics of it all, June is going to be a good month. Just you watch. 🙃 (fb)
