Over Memorial Day Weekend, Duxbury Beach was significantly impacted by a nor’easter, resulting in the loss of over 25 plover nests. As a result, at least 25 plover pairs are now actively looking to renest—joining the 25+ pairs that are already nesting on the beach. This afternoon, both Crossover 1 and Crossover 3 were unexpectedly closed due to the presence of two plover pairs observed laying eggs near the crossovers. In compliance with regulatory setback requirements for all Massachusetts beaches, the crossovers must remain closed during the egg-laying period. Tentative reopening timelines based on ongoing bird activity, are as follows: ➡️ CO3 may reopen as early as Friday morning. ➡️ CO1 may reopen by Sunday morning.
