Southland Ensemble is dedicated to the interpretation and performance of music from the experimental tradition. With its roots in early 20th century Dadaism and the New York School of the late 1950’s, experimental music has been cultivated for over 60 years and contains a vast array of diversely notated scores. The majority of these scores are seldom performed in the United States, and there are few ensembles dedicated entirely to its canon. It is the mission of Southland Ensemble to present experimental music to a wide variety of audiences through the mediums of interactive concerts, lectures and workshops. The ensemble believes strongly in the power of creative programming to educate and enhance the audience’s understanding of an historical or artistic period.
