“Together, we hold on… Together, we raise up.” “အပြန်အလှန်လေးစားဝေမျှ အတူတူရုန်းထကြမယ်” Today we wanted to share with you this original artwork by local Myanmar organization Ramita, who gave us permission to amplify their message of determination and solidarity following the March 28 earthquake in the country. The picture features the iconic Pyit Tine Htaung dolls, whose name means to "never fall down" or "always come back up," due to their ability to land upright no matter how they hit the ground. They have become known as a symbol of resilience. "People rise again and again, no matter what happens. The dolls represent the unshakeable spirit of our society," Ramita says. This is particularly poignant as the people of Myanmar continue to grapple with the devastating aftermath of the earthquake, which caused massive destruction and took the lives of more than 3,500 people, according to local estimates. This suffering and grief has been compounded by the military's continued lethal attacks on civilians and their blocking of aid to several affected areas. Severe storms also hit the country over the weekend, making ongoing relief efforts even more challenging for people on the ground. Last week, with your help, Partners Asia raised a remarkable $117,000 directly for local organizations carrying out earthquake relief in these conditions.
