Since the Cuban Revolution, hundreds of thousands of Cubans have made South Florida their home; bringing traditions, skills, and stories with them. Artist Manuel Vega arrived in Miami with his family in 1967, where he carried on a craft passed down from his father: building handmade cages for pet birds, something that is considered a beloved pastime in Cuba 🕊️ From friends to local pet stores, Vega's work became a reminder of home and the ways culture can live on through everyday traditions. Founded in 1897, just a year after the city’s incorporation, the Miami City Cemetery is a monument to so many of the people who helped shape the early history of the Magic City. Here is your chance to learn about it with us.
