The Deck The Chairs (DTC) received nearly 400 entries from talented young artists from across the First Coast as part of the inaugural Deck The Bins student art contest, and is proud to announce the 72 winning submissions. Each winner is receiving $100 and the opportunity to have their designs featured on wooden trash bins throughout Jacksonville Beach, bringing creativity and environmental awareness to public spaces. The judging criteria included creativity, technique, and age skill, with the submissions divided into two age groups – 8-13 and 14-18. The entries were judged by local artist Brook Page who has her artwork featured in galleries across the southeast, and who over the past decade, has painted more than 70 murals for Trader Joe’s stores from Miami to Little Rock. Anne Marie Moquin, the Founder of Beaches Go Green, also served as a judge. Beaches Go Green is a local nonprofit aiming to create awareness and education around the waste that we produce and how it impacts our planet. The judges were so impressed by the quantity and quality of submissions, additional funding was secured from private donors to double the number of student winners, bringing the total to 72. This contest, a collaboration with the City of Jacksonville Beach, Beaches Go Green, and Waste Pro, marks DTC’s expansion into year-round arts programming, furthering its mission to benefit students in the arts, while also nurturing creative development through community arts engagement. Those interested in donating to support an expanded Deck The Bins program in 2026 and other efforts aligned with Deck The Chairs’ mission can do so here. https://deckthechairs.org/get-involved/donate/ Installation of art panels on wooden bins kicks off June 1 with completion expected June 20. Thank You Deck The Bins Student Artists, Teachers, and Parents! It is with the deepest appreciation that Deck The Chairs recognizes all student artists, teachers, and parents who spent time creating and submitting art on behalf of this inaugural Deck The Bins program. We were amazed by the talent and genuine interest to share in creating this important communitywide message to Keep Our Beaches Clean. We are so proud of all the First Coast Student Artists who participated.
