THELMA GIBSON HEALTH INITIATIVE

THE ORGANIZATION WAS FORMED TO PROVIDE AND BUILD HEALTHY MINDS AND BODIES THROUGH QUALITY SOCIAL SERVICES TO UNDERSERVED GROUPS IN COCONUT GROOVE, SOUTH MIAMI, AND ADJOINING CORAL GABLES 2. Occupational and Job Placement Component - TGHI's Vocational Services Component provide(s) employability skills training, life and social skills development while focusing on a primary goal of reducing and stopping poverty, crime and violence. The backdrop of this program is a functioning restaurant space for local participants located on Grand Avenue, 3 doors down from TGHI headquarters. The model utilizes care coordination, health education, culinary skills training, literacy support and incentive based behavior motivation to provide high risk adults, parents, youth and seniors who lack foundational resource support, an array of educational and social skills enrichment opportunities while providing them vocational completion certificates through Safeway-ServeSafe, as well as assisting with employability placement upon graduation. The newly named Canteen Cuisine is ultimately designed as a vocational skills training program that allows clients to gain real world experience, working in low rations with our staff. Participants are instructed in activities which improve their quality of life and ultimately promote lasting changes in behaviors.
