International Kurru Archaeological Project

El Kurru is part of the UNESCO World Heritage site of Gebel Barkal and the sites of the Napatan region It was the burial place and royal city of many of the earliest Napatan kings and queens, including several 25th dynasty kings who conquered and ruled Egypt The excavation aims to investigate the archaeological remains of the royal city and cemetery areas in their broader landscape context, and to undertake necessary conservation work.

International Kurru Archaeological Project International Kurru Archaeological Project Excavation Conservation Collaboration The International Kurru Archaeological Project IKAP is a collaborative archaeological project codirected by Geoff Emberling Associate Research Scientist of the Kelsey Museum University of Michigan and Rachael J. Dann Associate Professor Egyptian Sudanese Archaeology of the University of Copenhagen. ElKurru isone of the most important sites of ancient Kush. It was a royal pyramid burial ground for many of the kings and queens of the dynasty of Napata from about 850650 BCE including burials of kings who conquered Egypt and ruled there as its 25 th Dynasty.
