Focused Community Strategies
Focused Community Strategies partners with under-served neighborhoods with innovative & holistic development for communities where God's Shalom is present. FCS is a faith-based community development organization in Atlanta, Georgia. The mission of Focused Community Strategies (FCS) is to partner with under-resourced neighborhoods to provide innovative and holistic development that promotes flourishing communities and God’s Shalom. Founded in 1978, we have been investing deeply in one Atlanta neighborhood at a time starting with Grant Park, then Ormewood Park, Summerhill, and East Lake. In 2000, we were invited to work alongside residents of Historic South Atlanta, a low-income, primarily African-American community of just over 2,800 residents where the scars of structural bias and racial inequity run deep. We take a comprehensive approach organized around four pillars, including mixed-income housing, economic development, neighborhood engagement, and training and consulting.

Our South Atlanta Youth Group had a blast strawberry picking at the Price Middle School farm with our friends at Citizen Farmers. The kids learned the power of teamwork, figuring out that full buckets come quicker when you work together. And of course, they loved munching on local, organic “candy” straight from the vine.

Carver Neighborhood Market recently became a classroom for Carver High School’s French 4 Honors class. After shopping in the store, Ms. Richardson and her students practiced their French by discussing ingredients and dishes that could bring the taste of France to the South Atlanta community.
