Houston K-911 Rescue
Houston K-911 Rescue is a non-profit organization dedicated to addressing the immediate crisis of animal overpopulation in Houston by rescuing street dogs in need. Established to combat the overwhelming number of homeless dogs in the city, the organization provides a safe haven and rehabilitation for rescued dogs, ultimately aiming to place them in loving foster and adoptive homes.
Mission and Objectives
The mission of Houston K-911 Rescue is centered on saving the lives of street dogs that are often in poor health or danger. Their work encompasses:
- Rescue and Rehabilitation: The organization focuses on rescuing dogs from the streets, providing them with necessary medical care, and nursing them back to health.
- Fostering and Adoption: Once stabilized, these dogs are placed in foster homes with the ultimate goal of finding them permanent, loving homes through adoption.
- Community Engagement: Houston K-911 Rescue also seeks to raise awareness about animal overpopulation and encourages community involvement through fostering and volunteering.
Operations
The rescue typically cares for between 100 to 150 dogs at any given time. Their operations involve:
- Emergency Interventions: They respond to emergency cases requiring immediate assistance, including dogs with broken bones or open wounds.
- Healthcare Services: The organization ensures that the dogs receive vaccinations, spaying/neutering, and other necessary medical interventions.
- Networking Partnerships: As a partner with organizations like Best Friends Animal Society, Houston K-911 Rescue collaborates with a broader network to enhance lifesaving efforts for animals.
Adoption Process
The adoption process involves a comprehensive application, home visit, and interview to ensure the best fit between the adopter and the dog. The adoption fees vary based on factors such as location and the age of the dog. Prospective adopters must be at least 25 years old.
Community Support
Houston K-911 Rescue encourages community support through various means:
- Donations: Monthly or one-time donations help cover costs such as vaccinations and medical bills.
- Volunteering: Individuals can volunteer by fostering dogs or assisting in other capacities.
The organization's efforts aim to reduce the number of homeless dogs in Houston and provide them with a chance for a better life. Through their work, Houston K-911 Rescue promotes a culture of compassion and responsibility towards animal welfare in the community.

This photo torn up our hearts. A vunerable female Doberman in heat. The male dogs swarm her like bees, 24/7. She's exhausted now, trying her best to keep them at bay but she was failing. We couldn't let this go on. She was too smart to be trapped so we had to call in someone to dart her to bring her to safety. Birdie has been decompressing at our vet overnight and she is being spayed today in case she is in a early stage pregnancy. Birdie can look forward to enjoying a harassment free life from here on out. She is heartworm positive so we'll be working on that after her recovery from her spay. Please help us continue to do the work to help save lives like Birdie. Donate at Paypal.me/houstonk911 Venmo houstonk-911 (charity acct) Zelle houstonk911rescue@gmail.com (fb)
