The mission of Budget and Financial Management Assistance (BFMA) is to advance financial stability by providing budgeting, bill payment, and advocacy as a representative payee to disabled, homeless, and elderly persons in the Kansas City metropolitan area. BFMA serves clients in other Missouri communities when another provider is not available.Many disabled individuals are in danger of homelessness. Social Security forces them to relinquish their money management to a third party because their disability limits their ability to successfully manage their own finances. Relatives or friends who do this often take advantage of them and steal their funds. BFMA improves daily life for those who experience severe and persistent mental health issues who choose BFMA to help them manage their funds. They can trust BFMA to use their funds properly, and they know bills will be paid regularly and on time. With BFMA expertise in financial management, they achieve stable housing.BFMA case managers vigilantly monitor payments to be sure they are correct. Clients have heat and lights and a weekly allowance to purchase food and other necessities. Connecting to community benefits is critical for very low income people. ny lapse in coverage. Clients gain dignity because they participate in building their budget, and they make decisions about how to spend their benefit. Their improved quality of life promotes peace of mind and mental health wellness. Within less than two years, clients are debt free and have modest savings as well as permanent housing.
