Pinewood Preparatory School

History

Founded in 1952 by Henrietta M. Allan, Pinewood began as a kindergarten and primary school. Over the years, it has expanded to include high school grades and a comprehensive athletic program. The school merged with The Summerville Academy in 1980, relocating to its current 43-acre campus.

Accreditation and Affiliations

Jointly accredited by the Southern Association of Independent Schools and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Pinewood is also a member of the Palmetto Association of Independent Schools and the South Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association (SCISAA). It participates in the Network of Complementary Schools, which facilitates student exchanges among member schools in the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico.

Facilities and Programs

The school offers a curriculum for grades K2-12 with a diverse range of programs focusing on academic rigor and extracurricular activities. Pinewood's athletic teams, known as the Panthers, participate in the SCISAA.

Notable Alumni

Among its notable alumni are professional athletes Chuck Eidson, Milton Jennings, and Jalen Slawson in basketball, and Ryan Steed in football.

Parent participation is actively encouraged through the Pinewood Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), which supports fundraising events, community service projects, and academic competitions.
