Our population is aging. However, many programs and initiatives have been put into place and are making strides to make cities in our region more accessible for older adults while benefiting all residents. Here are a couple of examples: 🟠 The City of Beavercreek, Beavercreek Township, City of Trotwood and the City of Dayton have all recently received $10,000 grants to initiate Step One of the AARP Age-friendly Communities process. Today there are 36 communities listed on the Coalition of Age-Friendly Communities of Ohio map and 15 of those are in the Dayton Region. 🟠 The City of Centerville received a grant to purchase an eight-seater Club Car Villager Golf Cart to transport older adults with mobility issues during outside events. 🟠 Also, grants have been awarded to support health services by providing Strength and Longevity Scholarships for Senior Center members to participate in the YMCA’s Silver Sneakers exercise program. For 40-plus years, Daybreak Dayton has been dedicated to transforming the lives of youth facing trauma, poverty, homelessness and mental illness. Thanks in part to a Dayton Foundation Greenlight Grant, Daybreak has established a sensory processing room that allows clients to manage their emotions while ensuring safety for themselves and others. Equipped with LEGOs, puzzles and other interactive tools, this space provides Daybreak youth a refuge to recharge before confronting the challenges that stand between them and a stable future. ________ Nonprofits!
