PROVIDING A PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE FOR THE SIOUXLAND COMMUNITIES

Champions Professional Indoor Football League

The Champions Professional Indoor Football League (CPIFL) was a nonprofit indoor football minor league operating in the Midwestern United States. It was in operation from 2013 to 2014.

History

The CPIFL was founded in 2012 with the idea of creating a league run by team owners, not a centralized president. This concept was spearheaded by Bob Scott, managing partner of the Sioux City Bandits, after the team's experience in the American Professional Football League. The CPIFL aimed to assemble the top indoor football teams from the Midwest, drawing from existing leagues like the Arena Football League and the Indoor Football League. The league officially began play in February 2013.

League Structure

The CPIFL's regular season consisted of a 12-game schedule, typically starting in mid-March and ending in mid-June. Teams played six home games and six road games, often on Friday and Saturday nights, with occasional Sunday afternoon games. The four teams with the best records at the end of the season qualified for postseason play. The league did not use a divisional format.

The playoffs followed a straightforward structure where the top teams hosted the initial rounds. The team with the best record hosted the fourth-place team, and the second-best hosted the third. The CPIFL Championship game determined the league champion.

Merger and Legacy

In August 2014, the CPIFL merged with the Lone Star Football League (LSFL) to form Champions Indoor Football (CIF), which began play in 2015. This merger created one of the largest indoor football leagues in the United States.

Champions

The Wichita Wild won both of the CPIFL's championship titles in 2013 and 2014.

Year Champion Runner-Up Score
2013 Wichita Wild Salina Bombers 47–34
2014 Wichita Wild Sioux City Bandits 46–41
Dissolution

The CPIFL ceased to exist as a separate entity after its merger with the LSFL in 2014. The legacy of the CPIFL lives on through its successor, Champions Indoor Football, which itself merged with the new Arena Football League in October 2023.
