MissionMinks Kids is committed to feeding the hungry in Indianapolis and its surrounding communities, especially homeless military veterans.Scope of ServiceMinks Kids’ primary service is to provide meals to homeless and working poor individuals and families in the Indianapolis metropolitan area. Currently, about twenty-five percent of the adult homeless population in Indianapolis is veterans, which equates to over 400 veterans sleeping on the streets of Indianapolis on any given night. Unfortunately, that number appears to be growing. But not only the homeless need food assistance. Marion and the eight surrounding counties that make up the Indianapolis metropolitan area are home to almost thirty percent of the state’s population. Further, of the nine counties, five rank in the top ten in the state in per capita income. However, over fifteen percent of these people report being food-insecure, unsure how they will feed their families from day to day. Even with over seventy food pantries and soup kitchens already in operation in Indianapolis alone, the need is very real.
