National Trails Day is THIS Saturday, June 7th! Join us and our pals PAL: Play Advocate Live Well and show your favorite trails some love! We’ll meet Saturday at 9am at the intersection of Wildflower Way, the Cottonwood Trail, and the River Birch Trail! Volunteers can choose your own adventure and pick up litter on the trails, remove invasive plants, or river sweep the Lawson’s Fork Creek! (Don’t forget your water and sun protection.) Following our work day, opt-in for a fun guided nature walk to the wetlands at 11 a.m., then come come out and enjoy a drink at thelocalhiker cuz you’ve earned it! Thanks to everyone who came out to celebrate with us last Friday at our ribbon cutting for the new, improved, and not going anywhere anytime soon Rachel's Bridge! Extra special thanks to Spartanburg County Foundation for the Hurricane Relief Grant to help with the bridge repair costs, The South Carolina Forestry Commission for the generous grant to help us fight the Emerald Ash Borer on our public lands, to Women Giving for Spartanburg who funded the renovation/redecking of Rachel's Bridge, to the City of Spartanburg, SC for helping to support the stewardship and infrastructure updates on the Preserve, to Eagle Scout Anderson Hanke for building an incredible bridge to replace the one that floated away, to Troy Gilreath and Community First Developers for saving the bridge, and to Liles Construction and all the volunteers who jumped in after Hurricane Helene to help clear trails and clean up the devastation left by the storm. The Edwin M. Griffin Preserve, home of the Cottonwood Trail, is truly a special place because of the community that loves and supports it. Thank you!
