Midwest Roofing Contractors Association

The Midwest Roofing Contractors Association (MRCA) is a US nonprofit organization, founded in 1950. It serves as a regional trade association dedicated to the needs of roofing contractors in the Midwest, often referred to as "The Contractors Advocate."

History

The MRCA was established following a roofing clinic held in Topeka, Kansas, on January 12, 1950, by a handful of contractors who sought to create a regional organization that better served local contractors than national associations. Initially, membership was limited to contractors from Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Missouri.

Mission and Activities

The MRCA's primary goal is to advocate for the interests of roofing contractors, provide education, and offer resources that help members grow and prosper. It hosts an annual conference and expo, featuring extensive educational sessions and exhibits of the latest products and services. The association is also involved in technical research, collaborating with national bodies like the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) to inform industry practices and protect contractor interests.

Awards and Recognition

MRCA presents several awards to recognize outstanding contributions in the roofing industry. These include the Architectural Sheet Metal Project of the Year Award, the Industry Innovation Award, the Community Impact Award, and the prestigious James Q. McCawley Award, which honors individuals demonstrating exceptional dedication to the roofing industry.

Technical and Research Committee

The MRCA Technical and Research Committee is a key component of the organization, acting as a watchdog to ensure that new and existing roofing systems meet quality standards. This committee has been instrumental in influencing roofing practices nationally.

Education and Training

MRCA offers various educational programs and safety training, available in both English and Spanish. The association's focus on education helps members stay updated with industry developments and best practices.

Impact

For over three-quarters of a century, MRCA has had a significant impact on the roofing industry, both regionally and nationally. The organization continues to evolve, focusing on innovation, community service, and improving industry standards.
