The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced on March 28, 2025, that private aircraft owners can now electronically request the withholding of their personal information, such as names and addresses, from public records. This initiative addresses privacy concerns, especially as social media accounts have used FAA registry data and Automatic Dependent Surveillance–Broadcast (ADS-B) information to track private flights of celebrities like Elon Musk and Taylor Swift. The FAA is also seeking public input on the potential impact of removing such information on essential functions like maintenance, safety checks, and regulatory compliance.
