Association of IB World Schools of Georgia
The Association of IB World Schools of Georgia (IBGA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting schools in the state of Georgia that offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) programs. The IBGA serves as a collaborative platform for IB schools, fostering mutual support, sharing best practices, and advocating for IB education at both state and local government levels.
Mission and Purpose
The primary mission of the IBGA aligns with the broader objectives of the International Baccalaureate Organization. It aims to promote educational excellence by developing inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people. The association works to create opportunities for students to become active, compassionate, and lifelong learners who appreciate intercultural understanding and respect.
Activities and Support
IBGA organizes semi-annual meetings that provide a forum for roundtable discussions and sharing of successful practices among member schools. These events facilitate networking opportunities among IB coordinators and educators, allowing them to collaborate on improving the IB programs throughout the state.
The association also offers advocacy support, helping to raise awareness about the benefits of IB education at the state and local levels of government. By providing a collective voice for its member schools, IBGA contributes to improving the recognition and acceptance of IB programs by universities and government agencies.
Membership
Membership in the IBGA is open to all IB candidate and authorized schools in Georgia. The organization's structure is based on a volunteer executive board composed of coordinators from local schools. Currently, due to a previous pause during the COVID-19 pandemic, membership fees were waived for the 2023-24 school year, with plans to reinstate a nominal fee in the future.
Role in Georgia's Educational Landscape
The IBGA plays a significant role in promoting IB education within Georgia, enhancing the state's educational offerings and ensuring that students have access to rigorous international programs that prepare them for success in an increasingly globalized world. By fostering collaboration and providing resources to its member schools, the IBGA contributes to the growth of IB programs across the state.
