At KSDS Assistance Dogs, we know that the journey to becoming a guide, service, or facility dog starts long before formal training - it begins in the homes and hearts of our dedicated puppy raisers. From the moment our puppies are placed at just 8 weeks old, these incredible volunteers take on the important job of teaching basic obedience, building social skills, and laying the foundation for each dog's future success. Over the course of 18-20 months, they nurture confidence, good manners, and a strong bond between dog and human - all with love and patience. Once the pups return to KSDS, they undergo health testing and begin more advanced training, with the ultimate goal of being matched with someone whose life they will transform.
