Sexual violence has lasting effects that go far beyond the moment of assault. These are the facts: - Prevalence: 1 in 5 women in the U.S. have experienced completed or attempted rape. - Intimate Partner Violence: Half of all female rape victims were assaulted by an intimate partner. - Perpetrator Relationship: 8 out of 10 rape victims knew their attacker. - Suicide Risk: 1 in 3 sexual assault victims contemplate suicide, and 1 in 10 women who are raped attempt suicide. - PTSD Impact: 30% of female rape survivors report PTSD symptoms nine months later. - Children & Sexual Violence: Every 9 minutes, a child is sexually assaulted in the U.S. If you or someone you know has been sexually assaulted: - It’s not your fault. - Make sure you're safe. - Once you're in a safe place, don’t change your appearance. - Get medical care. - Find support. - Seek out resources. - Consider talking to the police.
