From the Aleppo Archives: more Syria Temple glassware Here's a classic piece we recently received. You may recall from our previous posts, or just familiar from experience, that Syria Temple of Pittsburgh, PA was prolific in the production of glassware as souvenirs for the annual Imperial Sessions in the late 1800s and early 1900s. These cups, stemware, and shot glasses have become very collectible over the years. This piece however is not from an Imperial Session. The session in 1924 was held in Kansas City. This piece is most likely from an annual outing which were popular in the era. This is a poured glass paperweight, called such as it describes the process where molten glass would be poured into a mold. These were popular in the era and often backed with images similar to found on postcards as they were common as souvenirs, but they can sometimes be found with family or personal photos. There are still one or two companies that still make these in the traditional process today. (fb)
