KSTC was founded in 1987 to enhance the capacity of Kentucky's people, firms, and organizations to use science and technology, and effectively compete in the global economy. KSTC is an independent nonprofit corporation comprised of leaders from education, government, and the private sector who are dedicated to advancing ideas, science, and technology to enable Kentucky to embrace today's knowledge-based economy. Kris Kimel, a co-founder, served as KSTC's first President. Dr. Lee Todd, a co-founder and formerly Chairman of the Board of Directors, served as President of the University of Kentucky for 10 years. Frank T. (Terry) Samuel, Jr. began in 2017 as KSTC's second President.
