Ryan Olson is a long-distance runner who has a track record of ambitious racing feats, but experienced recurring pain that sidelined him from his goals. In September 2024, Ryan underwent a discectomy and laminectomy with Corewell Health spine surgeon Dr. Stephen Wanner, to address back pain and discomfort that had plagued him on and off for years. “Dr. Wanner had high confidence in what the surgery could achieve,” Ryan said. “He was phenomenal. He was a good fit for me - he knew my ambitions and goals.” Surgical recovery time was about 12 weeks, and Ryan was back to running around January, starting out slowly with a mile or two. Ryan is focusing on rebuilding strength and stamina for the 2025 Amway River Bank Run on May 10, aiming for a “triple crown” by running all three components - the 5K, 10K and 25K. (fb)
