The vision of Undercroft Opera is to provide Pittsburgh area singers and instrumentalists with an artistic outlet and greater sense of community, while giving audience members the opportunity to experience this talent through the medium of traditional operatic productions. The company is also dedicated to working with, educating and promoting emerging artists by providing entry-level operatic performing experience.Undercroft Opera is very much driven by the artists themselves, as our product, performance experience in traditional operatic productions, is designed to benefit the artists. The company first and foremost chooses operas that best suit the local talent available. We also consider a rotation of repertoire that covers various periods in music, such as classical, bel canto, verismo, etc. to expose our performers and audiences to a plethora of operatic masterpieces. We hold auditions and make the best selection of artists possible. We always strive to find new people for projects, and create casts that are a mix of performers we have worked with before plus performers who are new to us. Our vocalists and orchestra are on par with other professional companies in the region, and have improved steadily since the company's inception in 2006.
