Congratulations to our peers at UMKC for becoming Kansas City's first Carnegie Research 1 (R1) Institution! 🎉 The prestigious R1 designation recognizes institutions nationwide for their high-quality research activity and honors years of dedication to research, innovation, and community collaboration. Only 187 universities in the U.S. are R1, and UMKC is now one of only three in Missouri. "Achieving R1 elevates UMKC’s academic profile and presents an enormous opportunity for faculty, staff, and students to pursue groundbreaking research,” says Julie Quirin, president of Saint Luke's and a UMKC Board of Trustees member. “We can all take pride in this significant accomplishment.” Saint Luke's Hospital of Kansas City is proud to be a primary affiliate teaching hospital for the UMKC School of Medicine.
