April’s DSP (Direct Support Professional) Spotlight is Chuck Larson. For 36 years, Chuck has been delivering the mission through our Assistive Technology and Rural Solution Programs. Learn more with a quick Q&A. Q: What brought you to Easterseals? A: I was a state vocational rehab counselor in Missouri for 13 years. It was a government program developed by President Kennedy that worked with high school special education students to find a job and receive their diploma. My wife saw an ad in a farming publication for an Easterseals opening that she thought was a perfect fit for me. Q: What do you appreciate about your day-to-day work? A: I am able to be creative in my solutions to help our clients be active and independent. The freedom and flexibility that I am given to bring together the right people, services and tools is really rewarding. Q: Do you have any favorite memories or stories? A: Clients are so thankful for our work and feel that we have truly saved their lives. I had a client for over 30 years that recently passed away. He said we gave him the motivation to push himself. He didn’t think he’d be alive if it wasn’t for the Easterseals services. Q: What have you learned about yourself through your work? A: The work we do is so important. This isn’t just a job about following regulations and rules, we are about outcomes and relationships. Clients are so appreciative and that is why I love doing this work. Q: What would you like people to know about working here at Easterseals? A: Our work is most rewarding because we listen to a person’s hopes and desires. We find out what it is they want. We find solutions here at Easterseals, reach out to other services and/or find funding options to help make things possible. We don’t say “no” because circumstances don’t fit neatly into a box. (fb)
