Leslie “Snez” Roger Leatherman, 57, of London, Kentucky, tragically passed away on Saturday, May 17th, 2025, while answering the ultimate call of servanthood. Les was found heroically shielding his wife, Michelle, during the devastating tornado that struck southeastern Kentucky. Les is survived by his loving wife, Michelle, who remains hospitalized. He is also survived by his mother, Alice (Philpot) Leatherman, and his son, Evan Leatherman, and his wife, Amber, along his cherished grandchildren, Elias and Georgia, all of London, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his father, Roger Leatherman. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend and public servant, Les leaves behind a legacy of selflessness, dedication, and courage. A dedicated public servant with nearly 39 years of experience, Les began his career as an emergency medical technician and later became an emergency dispatcher for Laurel County and Kentucky State Police. He was the current Assistant Director of the 911 Center in Whitley County, was a fire rescue instructor for the Kentucky Fire Commission. Also was a Major with the Laurel County Fire Department where he volunteered for 39 years. Les was known for his selfless devotion, his steady leadership and unwavering commitment to protecting others. He was a mentor and deeply compassionate individual who always ran toward danger to help others. Les’ life was a true reflection of a true servant with his service of others was always above self. Whether responding to a call, training others, or offering support to those in need, he carried himself with integrity, humility, and compassion. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the countless people whose lives he touched through his work and character. Les' passing has profoundly impacted local emergency responders, who remember him as a mentor, instructor, and deeply compassionate individual. His legacy will continue to inspire emergency service workers in the region. Funeral services for Leslie “Snez” Roger Leatherman will be conducted Monday, May 26, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Faith Assembly of God Church with Jerry Lewis and Dwight Scalf officiating. Entombment will follow at Cumberland Memorial Gardens. The family of Leslie “Snez" Roger Leatherman will receive friends at Faith Assembly of God Church from 10:00 AM til the funeral hour on Monday, May 26, 2025. Serving as pallbearers will be Terry Wattenbarger, Chantz McPeek, Shane Lynch, Jared Kennedy, Jeff Hylton, Nick Lunsford, Greg Reams and Doug Gregory.
