Volunteer with the Bald Head Island Conservancy!  Want to help protect sea turtles? We’re looking for volunteers to help maintain our sea turtle nest protection cages – a key part of making sure eggs stay safe during incubation. No experience needed! Just bring your enthusiasm for conservation and a willingness to help.  Only 4 volunteer spots are available each day – so don’t wait to sign up! Spots fill quickly. It’s Terrapin Tally time! The 2025 Terrapin Tally is a collaborative effort led by NCDEQ’s Coastal Reserve program. They work with community partners to gather important data on this species of special concern by kayaking through estuaries and recording sightings. By doing this volunteers help monitor terrapin populations and support conservation efforts. In order to participate there is a in-person and online training session on April 12. Surveys take place April 25–June 15, and volunteers must attend a training session and bring their own kayak or canoe, life jacket, and smartphone.
