The foundation was established in memory of Dr. Marnie Rose, who was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer at the age of 27 while she was a resident in pediatric medicine. She shared her cancer journey on the ABC reality series Houston Medical before passing away in August 2002. The foundation honors her spirit by advancing medical research and promoting awareness about brain cancer.

Activities and Fundraising

One of the foundation's primary activities is the annual Run for the Rose, which includes a 5K run, a family 1K, and post-race festivities. The event aims to support brain cancer research and pediatric health initiatives by recognizing survivors and remembering those lost to the disease. Over the years, the event has grown significantly, and the foundation has raised more than $7 million for brain cancer research at institutions like MD Anderson Cancer Center and UTHealth Houston, as well as for pediatric initiatives at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital.
