Overall, Black, Latinx, and Native American households pay a higher percentage of their income in utility costs and bear a steeper energy burden than white households. These communities also bear the brunt of pollution from the fossil fuel industry as well as the worsening harms of the climate crisis. We must fundamentally transform the energy system to achieve energy justice and a sustainable, livable future.
