Dream Factory, Inc. New Jersey
The Dream Factory is a national children's wish-granting organization headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky. The Dream Factory grants dreams to chronically and critically ill children ages 3 through 18 in areas where our chapters are located. The Dream Factory, Inc., the second-largest children's wish-granting organization in the United States, grants the dreams of children who have been diagnosed with critical or chronic illnesses and are 3 through 18 years of age. We serve children with chronic conditions as well and critical illnesses because we believe children with significant chronic conditions suffer physically and emotionally as well. Founded in Hopkinsville, Kentucky in 1980, The Dream Factory nationally has granted thousands of dreams in its history. Having no paid staff at the chapter level, we depend on very dedicated volunteers in over 30 chapters across the country to raise funds, arrange dream trips and procure special items for children in their own communities.

Dream Factory, Inc.
Overview
Dream Factory, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization known for granting the dreams of children who are critically or chronically ill. It is recognized as the largest all-volunteer children's wish-granting organization in the United States. Unlike some other similar organizations, Dream Factory does not limit its mission to children with life-threatening illnesses, also focusing on those with chronic illnesses and disorders.
History and Growth
The Dream Factory began in 1980 with a single all-volunteer chapter in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. Since its inception, it has grown significantly, operating through a network of local chapters across the U.S. These chapters are managed entirely by volunteers, ensuring a high percentage of raised funds are used directly for granting dreams. There are 32 local chapters, each dedicated to raising funds and supporting children in their respective communities.
Operational Model
The organization's model relies heavily on volunteers at both the national and local levels. This volunteer-driven approach allows for high efficiency, with 96.1% of funds raised going towards granting children's dreams, according to the national organization's data. This efficiency has earned Dream Factory a perfect 4-star rating from Charity Navigator for 13 consecutive years.
Volunteer Opportunities
Dream Factory offers a variety of volunteer opportunities, including:
- Fundraising and Special Events: Volunteers help organize events and campaigns to raise funds.
- Public Relations and Community Relations: These roles involve managing the chapter's public image and relationships with the local community.
- Information Technology: Volunteers assist with IT tasks such as web updates.
- Corporate Sponsorship: Securing support from local businesses.
- Dream Screening & Selection: Volunteers are involved in the process of selecting which dreams to grant.
- Dream Managers: Responsible for overseeing the fulfillment of dreams.
New Chapter Establishment
Community members can establish new chapters by contacting the national headquarters, assembling a core group of volunteers, completing necessary contracts, and securing local resources.
Financial Transparency and Efficiency
Dream Factory is noted for its high level of financial transparency and efficiency in using donations. The absence of local paid staff means that nearly all funds are directed towards fulfilling the dreams of critically and chronically ill children, making it a highly effective charity.
Other Initiatives
In addition to direct dream granting, Dream Factory also participates in broader fundraising initiatives. For example, the Dream Factory Racing Team was established to raise funds through marathons and races. Additionally, supporters can donate through platforms like AmazonSmile and eBay Giving Works.
Recognition and Impact
Dream Factory's commitment to efficiency and transparency has been consistently recognized by Charity Navigator, receiving its highest ratings. This reputation attracts widespread support from various communities across the U.S., enabling the organization to fulfill numerous dreams for children facing significant health challenges.
