Shine for Girls Inc
SHINE combines dance with math in its innovative curriculum for middle school girls and is growing nationally. Founded by @kirinsinha. SHINE's mission is to positively transform the lives of local young women by cultivating a passion for mathematics through a free 8-week program that incorporates both math and dance. SHINE for Girls provides innovative, curriculum-based after-school programming for middle school girls. Utilizing kinesthetic learning, SHINE combines formal dance training with rigorous math instruction to improve girls' math scores and spark their interest in STEM. SHINE for Girls uses a new method based in kinesthetic learning that effectively supplements the classroom experience. To date, girls in our programs have repeatedly seen over an 80% improvement in math scores and confidence as measured by pre and post tests and surveys across several programs running in numerous states over the past year and a half. The success of our program has led to positive feedback from national media sources including CNN, CBS, Fox, the Boston Globe—and most importantly from the girls, parents, and teachers. Our short-term objective of empowering 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade female students with both the confidence and mathematics skills to understand and embrace math leads into our long-term goal to create a pipeline of next-generation leaders in STEM fields. SHINE for Girls provides after-school programming across the United States.
