Breaking the Chain Through Education Inc

Overview

Breaking the Chain Through Education Inc. is a nonprofit organization committed to eradicating child slave trafficking in impoverished regions of Ghana. The organization focuses on providing education and support to victims of child trafficking to protect them from re-entry into slavery.

Mission

The mission of Breaking the Chain Through Education (BTCTE) is to uplift children freed from slavery and child labor by offering rehabilitation, education, and support. By creating a safe environment, BTCTE aims to empower these children to heal, thrive, and build a brighter future for themselves and their communities.

Activities

BTCTE employs case workers in Ghana who place beneficiaries in safe environments conducive to pursuing education or specialized vocational training. The organization has helped build a school in the Lake Volta region, where children are often engaged in forced labor in the fishing industry. BTCTE supports more than 90 formerly trafficked children, working to end cycles of poverty that lead to trafficking.

Achievements

Since its inception, BTCTE has seen significant growth in its beneficiary base, with over 110 beneficiaries currently supported. Notably, more than 50 have graduated from the program. In 2024, BTCTE opened a new campus in Ghana that can house 40 beneficiaries, marking a significant development in providing group residential support to its program participants.

Governance and Team

The organization is led by Evan Robbins as the Founder and CEO. Other key team members include Lisa Robbins, who serves as Secretary of the Board and has extensive experience in education. The team is supported by various professionals contributing to legal, developmental, and fundraising efforts.

Unique Approach

BTCTE's approach is distinct in its focus on providing comprehensive support that includes both academic education and vocational training. This holistic method ensures that beneficiaries are equipped with skills necessary for long-term stability and independence. The recent establishment of a residential campus further enhances its ability to provide a supportive community environment, which is crucial for the psychological well-being of its beneficiaries.
