What’s the significance of the New Hampshire 4-H Four-Leaf Clover? The green four-leaf clover is the official emblem of 4-H and in New Hampshire, each leaf represents a core value of the youth development organization. These values guide 4-H’s mission to help young people grow into well-rounded individuals who are ready to thrive in today’s world. 🍀 Head: The first leaf, Head, signifies the importance of gaining knowledge and developing critical thinking skills. Through various projects and workshops, 4-H members in New Hampshire explore new interests, learn practical skills and engage in hands-on learning experiences that expand their horizons. 🍀 Heart: The second leaf, Heart, embodies the spirit of compassion, leadership and empathy. 4-H encourages youth to develop a sense of responsibility towards their communities and to cultivate strong ethical values that guide their actions and interactions with others. 🍀 Hands: The third leaf, Hands, represents the commitment to service and active citizenship. From community clean-up initiatives to volunteering at local events, 4-H members in New Hampshire are actively involved in making a positive difference in their communities, using their skills and talents to serve others. 🍀 Health: Finally, the fourth leaf, Health, underscores the importance of physical and mental well-being. Through programs promoting healthy living, nutrition and personal development, 4-H empowers youth to take charge of their health and lead fulfilling lives. The four leaves come together to embody the 4-H motto: “To make the best better.” https://extension.unh.edu/blog/2024/03/what-significance-new-hampshire-4-h-four-leaf-clover (fb)

Which spring ephemerals are best for your NH Garden, you ask? 🌸 We've got the answers! These early bloomers add charm and color to your garden before summer even starts. Perfect for woodland areas and shady spots, these native plants pop up, show off and then disappear—just in time for your summer perennials to take the stage. Here are some of UNH Extension's professional recommendations: 🌿 Spring beauty (Claytonia virginiana) 🌿 Virginia bluebells (Mertensia virginica) 🌿 Rue anemone (Thalictrum thalictroides) 🌿 Jack-in-the-pulpit (Arisaema triphyllum) 🌿 Bloodroot (Sanguinaria canadensis) 🌿 Mayapple (Podophyllum peltatum) 🌿 Dutchman’s breeches (Dicentra cucullaria) https://extension.unh.edu/blog/2020/05/which-spring-ephemerals-are-best-new-hampshire-gardens (fb)
