We talk about ripples, influence, building knowledge foundations... Will Pomerantz is one such person who has carried the Viking Genealogy of Influence full circle. From being a student at NASA Academy, Founder by Viking Chief Scientist, Jerry Soffen, to working on Mars flight at @Aerovironment founded by Paul McCreary, researcher, engineer, and terrific person who's home we stayed in during Viking days. The generations directly influenced by Viking, with Founding institutes like NASA Academy, The Planetary Society, The SETI Institute, Mars Underground leading to The Mars Society , and movements begun from Carl Sagans COSMOS... Viking was more than just a "Search for Life", and though the controversy (which we address in our talks) was nonetheless the inspiration for the further "pursuit" of Mars, though the hyper fixation on that small part of the mission did impact missions for some time. But Viking laid the Foundation for even current work, like this at AeroVironment, the Astrobiology research, and more. Mars weather, entry descent and landing, atmosphere and surface characteristics... these are just a few of the legacies of Viking.
