When the executive directors of all the state councils opened a midnight email—if it didn’t go to their spam folder because it was from an unknown address—to learn that our current NEH grant is terminated, it created havoc and uncertainty. There isn’t a way to plan for such a severe disruption to work that’s currently going on even if you have other kinds of funding. So at Humanities New York we had to respond by cancelling future grant application deadlines and pausing payments on current grants. And we have to plan for a scenario in which there isn’t funding for the rest of this year or even in coming years.” #humanities #humanitiesny #neh (fb)
