Tanzania Reads Inc
Recent studies have found that only 3% of Tanzanian students have their own reading and math textbooks. Many secondary school students in Tanzania have never even held a textbook. Students are tremendously lucky if they have one textbook to share among a class of sixty. The sacrifices students make to attend school are many, and most that find a way to study are extremely motivated. Still, their educations are challenged by many factors, especially a lack of supplies. We’re a small group of returned Peace Corps Volunteers who, though retired from our expatriate lives in East Africa, still want to help the Tanzanian communities we love grow and flourish. For over two years, we served as math and science teachers in rural Tanzanian schools with extremely limited resources, and we want to give our students more. While many volunteers establish school libraries and learning rooms in their schools, the lack of books and materials prevents these projects from being as effective as they could be. We want to provide that missing link for Tanzanian schools – those with volunteers and those without – and we want you to heland perhaps to access other materials as well.
