This way, they can get a secure, well-paying job to support their family. That’s why Rith pursued barbering at a vocational school in Battambang – and now he’s turning his dreams into reality! After completing the course, he opened his own small barber shop at home about a year and a half ago. Slowly Rith built his business, and CFI was able to exit him from services. Now that he has been supporting himself for a year, our Education Advocacy team went to check in on him and see how he is doing. Rith told us that he’s so proud of himself and how his business has been able to grow. His customers are loyal because of the quality of his work and he continues to give back to his community by cutting children’s hair for free when they are unable to afford it. Rith is looking forward to continuing his business and hopefully starting a family of his own in the next few years. We are so proud of his hard work and dedication and so happy to see his success! Over the past year, we have been able to improve the knowledge and skills of our own social workers and see the improvement of the children receiving care. Some children have now learned daily tasks, such as brushing their teeth and feeding themselves, which builds confidence and independence. Despite the cut in funding from USAID which affected this project, OIC Cambodia has continued to provide individualized monthly therapy sessions to the children that CFI helps.
