Founded in 1853, ABHS holds the largest and most diverse collection of Baptist-related materials in the world. Our historical library holds upwards of 55,000 volumes. It will serve as a trusted guide to its collections, maximizing access to both present and future generations. The Society will reach out to a wide range of scholars, leaders and institutions, seeking to be both a student and a teacher. Central to this mission is the preservation of the historical record of the American Baptist Churches USA and the advancement of the high value of the traditions of Baptist religious life.
