Epiphany Catholic School
Epiphany school is dedicated to the formation and education of children from pre-school (3 years old) through the 8th grade. Epiphany offers a challenging curriculum and caring teachers that aim to inspire their students, to grow spiritually, intellectually, artistically, psychologically and socially. We believe in a holistic approach to prepare students to become lifelong learners. All Epiphany students learn in a nurturing and value centered environment that offers a family-orientated community. Our Catholic faith ii integrated into all aspects of the school. Neither students nor their families need be members of the Catholic faith to attend but, it should be understood that a lifelong personal relationship with God is promoted among our parishioners, families, and students. Epiphany began as a parish school educating students in what was once known as the Crawford neighborhood. The Latino parishioners gradually replaced the first parishioners from the Slavic countries throughout the 1970s and 1980s to create a culturally vibrant community known as Chicago's Little Village neighborhood, or La Villita. The Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa, Wisconsin were the school's first teachers who continued at the school for more than 70 years creating one of the finest educational facilities serving the lower west side of Chicago. Today, the parish and school continue to stand strong. The student body is 97% Latino with 75% of the students bilingual. English is the second language for over 70% of the students and families. Epiphany's service to the Latino community makes it a catalyst for change. At a time when the Latino achievement gap widens, Epiphany students are graduating to go onto Catholic high schools and select enrollment charter schools. By providing a strong educational foundation to Latinos, Epiphany is doing what it can to close the achievement gap of Latinos and all economically disadvantaged people, Latino or otherwise.
