We thank our special guest speakers: • John Fung, MD, PhD, Director of the University of Chicago Medicine Transplantation Institute, Professor of Surgery, University of Chicago Medicine; Jefferson Health Board Member • George Herrera, Executive Vice President, Donor Services, MTF Biologics • Melanie Penna, MPA, mother of donor hero Anthony Penna; Executive Vice President, People and Product Experiences, Comcast Technology & Product/Growth & Operations; Jefferson Health Board Member Melanie’s story was a moving Connect to Purpose, sharing how Anthony’s donation brought hope to the Penna family: “When we knew he wasn’t going to live, there was comfort in knowing others would.” Dr. Fung discussed the changing transplant landscape, highlighting ways organ procurement organizations can strengthen vital relationships with transplant centers. George Herrera provided insight into tissue processing partnerships that honor donor gifts, transform lives of patients and support medical research. Our leadership team also focused on advancing stakeholder engagement and building our staff’s professional skills as we pursue our vision to end the transplant waitlist. Longtime Gift of Life Howie's House Home Cook Hero group Team Spiers recently celebrated a special milestone — their 150th time preparing a meal at the House! Team Spiers was formed in memory of Kevin Spiers, an organ donor hero who saved lives with his gifts. The Spiers family have been cooking meals at the House since it opened, serving a meal to thousands of families who have come through the doors. The family has also supported Gift of Life's mission in various other ways, including participating in the Donor Dash and the Strokes of Kindness Art Contest. Their 150th visit was made even more special with the contribution of hundreds of dollars worth of gift cards for the House to use for various kitchen needs.
