Phi Alpha Theta is the National History Honor Society for Colleges and Universities. PROVIDE A FORUM FOR EDUCATIONAL INTERACTION FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS IN THE FIELD OF HISTORY. THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDES FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO STUDENTS WHO SUBMIT PAPERS, TRANSCRIPTS AND LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION. THE ORGANIZATION ALSO PREPARES JOURNALS FOR ITS MEMBERS AND OTHERS TO ENHANCE HISTORICAL EDUCATION AND ACHIEVEMENT.

It's time for #FlashbackFriday. We're going back to June 27, 1829, when English scientist James Smithson passed away, and his will paved the way for the Smithsonian Institution to be established. In his will, Smithson declared his estate would go to his nephew, but his nephew passed without heirs in 1835, so the estate went “to the United States of America, to found at Washington, under the name of the Smithsonian Institution, an establishment for the increase and diffusion of knowledge among men.
