Kayla Wietrzykowski, MSN ’27, nursing education, turned her own experience with migraines into a powerful research project focused on adolescent health. Presented at Capital’s Graduate Research Forum, her study explored the link between stress and migraines in teens, a group often overlooked in migraine literature. “Teenagers are not getting enough sleep. They’re stressed about college, homework, and things at home,” Wietrzykowski explained. “If we can target some of these stressors and mitigate them, we can mitigate migraines as well.” She found that holistic interventions, like biofeedback, can be just as effective as medication, highlighting the need to treat patients as whole people, not just symptoms.
