Description

VoxAmaDeus

VoxAmaDeus is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit musical performance organization based in Philadelphia, U.S. Founded in 1987 by Romanian-born Maestro Valentin Radu, the organization is dedicated to the historically informed performance of music from the High Renaissance, Baroque, and Classical periods.

History and Mission

VoxAmaDeus was established to revive and showcase the rich musical heritage of Europe from approximately 1500 to 1825, with a focus on both well-known and lesser-known compositions. The organization aims to bring this music to life through high-quality performances and educational initiatives, enhancing audience appreciation for these historical periods.

Artistic Activities

Under Maestro Radu's leadership, VoxAmaDeus conducts a variety of performances featuring its subsets, including the Vox Renaissance Consort, the Ama Deus Ensemble, and Camerata Ama Deus. These groups specialize in authentic historical performances, often using replicas of ancient instruments and adhering to period-specific practices, such as performing at Baroque pitch (A=415).

Performance Niche

The organization's repertoire extends beyond the common period-specific pieces, embracing masterworks from the Romantic era that reflect the "Viennese Classic style." Performances are noted for their high artistic standards and audience engagement, often incorporating period costumes and historical context.

Educational and Community Impact

While focused primarily on performance, VoxAmaDeus also contributes to music education, preserving the cultural legacy of early European music for future generations. The organization's commitment to authenticity and historical accuracy enriches the musical experience for both performers and audiences alike.

Leadership

Maestro Valentin Radu, a Juilliard School graduate with extensive experience leading orchestras and ensembles in Europe and the United States, continues to guide VoxAmaDeus in its mission. His leadership has been instrumental in shaping the organization's artistic vision and educational initiatives.

Recognition

VoxAmaDeus has garnered recognition for its interpretations of both familiar and obscure compositions, contributing significantly to the appreciation and study of early European music in the U.S.
