Congratulations to the Alaska Professional Hunters Association. A huge win for non-resident hunters in Alaska! And a great precedent was set for any future litigation against the NM EPLUS program. On Friday the Alaska Supreme Court rejected the plaintiff's claim that non-resident allocation of Kodiak Island brown bear hunting permits violated the Alaska Constitution. The Supreme Court found that "all Alaskans benefit from the funding brought into the state by non-resident hunters...and non-resident hunting fees underwrite over 70% of the wildlife authority’s budget and keep resident hunting licenses and tag fees very low".
