Using Jane Magrath’s grading system and the Royal Conservatory of Music grading system, it helps teachers assess difficulty levels, making Delgadillo’s works more accessible. Looking for a way to boost musical literacy in your studio? David Forbat (NCTM) has an innovative approach, which you can learn about at his session "Cultivating Musical Literacy Through Snapshots" on Saturday, June 14th at 5:00 in the Regency Room. In this session, a practical approach to building musical literacy will be introduced which can be routinely incorporated into lessons at any level. Taking a selected portion, or “snapshot,” of the score at hand, teachers can, in a few minutes, reveal the essential aspects of the musical fabric at hand and the meaning contained therein. For each snapshot, a 3-step “AAA” process will be implemented (Analyze, Absorb, Apply). Though a student may be using a theory and/or technique supplement, this “snapshot” approach is particularly useful in demonstrating the relevancy of the score without taking up too much lesson time.
