Happy Women's History Month! Today we're featuring Dr. Huberta Livingstone who, in 1928, began her medical career in anesthesiology at the University of Chicago. She served as Director of the Department of Anesthesiology in 1929 until her resignation in 1952. Dr. Livingstone was incredibly active in professional organizations, serving as President of the Chicago Society of Anesthesiologists (1936), the Mid-Western Association of Anesthetists (1937), and the Illinois Society of Anesthesiologists (1958-1959). Dr. Herman Aladdin Barnett III was a Texas surgeon and anesthesiologist. He was the first African-American to graduate from a Texas medical school, and was also the first African-American to serve on the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners in 1968. Following his untimely death, his friends established the Herman Barnett Memorial Award which is given to an outstanding medical student each year. #anesthesiologist #BlackHistoryMonth #history (fb)
